이 책은 전시 《쇼가(ショウガ)와 생강》(부산 영주맨션, 2023년 5월 14일~6월 11일)에서 함께 놓인 단행본이다. 같은 단어가 두 언어를 오가며 곡해되는 사건에서 출발해, 생강 하이볼 한 모금이 불러낸 오래된 기억을 따라간다. 

가족 간의 대화 속에서 한 대상에 얽힌 이야기를 꺼내고 나누는 목소리가 녹취록의 형태로 삽입되어 있고, 그 사이사이에 그에 대한 작가의 단상이 뒤섞여 있는 것이 이 책의 구성적 특징이다. 왜 미워했는가에서 왜 오해했는가로 돌아오는 이 흐름은, 한 대상에게 덧입혀진 오래된 감정과 기억이 얼마나 취약하고 왜곡되기 쉬운지를 들여다본다. 

각자의 생강을 적어 넣을 수 있는 여백을 두어, 개인의 기억을 공동의 물음으로 열어둔다. 가족을 돌아보는 일을 넘어, 우리가 맺어온 관계의 형태를 다시 생각하게 하는 책이다.

This book accompanied the exhibition Shoga (ショウガ) and Ginger, held at Art Space Youngju Mansion, Busan, from May 14 to June 11, 2023. It begins with an incident of mistranslation, the same word twisted in meaning as it passes between two languages, and follows a bitter memory stirred up by a sip of ginger highball. Its distinctive structure weaves together transcribed voices from family conversations, where stories tied to a particular figure are brought up and spoken aloud, interspersed with the author's own reflections on them. Moving from why we hated to why we misunderstood, it examines how fragile and easily distorted our feelings and memories toward one person can become. Blank space is left for readers to write in their own ginger, opening a private memory into a shared question. Beyond a reflection on family, it invites a rethinking of the many forms our relationships take.
